Artist's Comments

*EDIT for Warhound608 from GT* Yes, this is, in fact, my work.

*jusdog drew this pin-up a while back and it caught my eye. So I asked, got permission, inked it, started colouring it... And then it sat untouched for several months. I'd look at it occasionally and was just never happy with the rendering. So I scrapped the light and shadows and started over tonight, inspired by *Markovah's tutorial [link]

I added the goatee in the inks because Cage had one in the New Avengers issue that Jus mentioned previously somewhere... I forget where... I thought it was in the description, but it's gone now. Weird.

It still looks like garbage to me in a lot of areas, but I need to be done with it so I can move on.

Sorry, Justin. I really wanted it to be better but I can't agonize over it anymore. :/

See the original pencil drawing here: [link]

Horribly inked in Manga Studio EX [still awesome for inking; I just suck at it].

Coloured in Photoshop CS with a Graphire3 and Intuos3.

This is my first real try at rendering. Sort of. First, second, third, seventh... Kept starting over. Pretty pleased with the background. Took two minutes. Dur...

I was just on the front page hitting refresh until I saw something I liked. And your picture was amazing.

Yeah, I figured.

Looking good Eagle! I really like how the mostly desaturated palette really pops those bullet impacts.
:iconsqarr:
It looks very different now than what I was working on. I slid the middle level thing to 1.54 to lighten it. I didn't want it to be so much "desaturated," but... >_<

I wish I could see it on your screen. I've got no controls on mine, since it's just a laptop. The video drivers don't have them either.

It looks so gray and blah compared to everything I see from you. I think I'm getting there, though.

How high you want? I worked it at typical comic page scan size, so it can be pretty big.

Thanks, man. ;)

Well, that sucks that you can't tell what it really looks like, but the result is still pretty good. Laptop screens are notoriously bad at color matching. A good gauge of light/dark is to look at solid white, black, and 50% grey on your screen and make sure they actually look like what they're supposed to be. Also, PS has some of it's own controls that you could get a little closer.

For anyone who happens to be watching, we discussed this in private, so I'm not ignoring him!
